Auditions were on a Friday. He had to take off work and lucky for me, I was on summer break. I remember standing in a really long line with girls who were so much taller, fuller, and looked like they had just stepped off the pages of Cosmo Girl. I overheard one girl tell another that she had been eating her cereal in front of the mirror for the past month to prepare for her auditions for Kix.
Someone handed me a piece of paper, “memorize these before it’s your turn.”
Cody’s cosmetics. It’s not just makeup anymore; it’s the way of life. Wearable makeup for all occasions. It’s so light; you won’t even know it’s there.
I wonder if they could tell I didn’t wear makeup. I looked over at my father. He sat in a corner, shaking his leg while reading a newspaper. He would be in his own world for the next hour.
Two hours later, it was my turn to stand in front of a camera and recite (with energy and excitement).
Cody’s cosmetics. It’s umm not jus makeup anymore; umm it’s the way of life. And, umm it’s like wearable makeup for every occasions. It’s light; so umm you won’t even know it’s there. Thank you!
Silence. Someone asked me to try it again. My face began to burn. My throat closed up. I panicked, excused myself, and went looking for my father. I found him investigating a vending machine. I’m done. Are you going to pretend? Just in my head.
Oh well, I’m better behind the camera anyway. Savannah’s mom asked if I had any advice to pass on to Savannah to prepare her for the industry. And because of my short stint in showbiz, I told Savannah to be nice and that she might consider eating in front of the mirror. I mean really, how could you not think this child is film material? She’s absolutely gorgeous!
Best of luck to sweet Savannah and to anyone breaking into the biz.
